News

We are currently recruiting for a new Chair of the AAC who normally serves as an IDS Trustee and where appropriate represent the views of the AAC to the Board of Trustees including presentation of the AAC Annual Report as a standing item at the December Board meetings. The successful appointee will have the requisite experience and will meet Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) 'fit and proper' test as well as other standards set out by the UK Companies Act and the Charity Commission.

The Alumni Advisory Committee (AAC) is made-up of alumni who are appointed by the IDS Board of Trustees and IDS volunteers. Chaired by an AAC alumni member who is also a member of the IDS Board of Trustees, the AAC contributes to the governance of IDS ensuring that the alumni voice is heard at Board level. The AAC also guides and supports the work of the IDS Alumni Office.

Please note that we are also recruiting for an general alumni member of the Alumni Advisory Committee. Please see the details including how to apply here

What is the process of applying?

All IDS alumni (anyone who has finished studying at IDS) are eligible to apply. You need to complete a short application form outlining your relevent experience and what you will bring as leader of the Committee. Applications close at midnight on Sunday 21 April.

All applications will be reviewed by the AAC Nominations Committee and they will make a recommendation of the new member to the Board of Trustees.

We are aiming for the new member to be approved at the May 2025 Board meeting; with a first term start date of 1 June 2025.

What's the commitment?

The Chair (and Trustees) are appointed for an inital 4 year term, followed by 2 or 4 years renewal option, up to a maximum of 8 years total.

The Chair is expected to attend regular AAC meetings (three 2 hour meetings per year), and  to engage in an advisory capacity in-between meetings. All members of the AAC are asked to be proactive in supporting alumni events and in connecting with IDS Alumni network volunteers.

AAC meetings are held virtually on Microsoft Teams and you will need to have access to a good stable internet connection to engage effectively with IDS and the rest of the AAC.

As a Trustee you are expected to attend the Board meetings in person and IDS will reimburse reasonable travel and accommodation expenses. IDS anticipates that your attendance, preparation, travel, and remote input and training will take approximately ten days per year (this could vary depending on your location and travel time). In addition, each Trustee is asked to serve on one or more of the Board Committees, meeting between one and three times a year.
