The Institute of Development Studies
60th Anniversary
For 60 years, IDS has helped shape development thinking and practice around the world. Your £60 gift celebrates a shared legacy — and ensures IDS continues to influence positive change for decades to come.
I am thoroughly grateful to the IDS grad scholarship for giving me the opportunity to study at the institute! I have come back with a lot more questions around development.
Saba Aslam - MA Poverty and Development - 2019/20
Learning at IDS has made me feel like I am a part of a global think-tank; I have unlearnt my rigid ideologies, relearned best practices to amplify my skills and knowledge in the development space, and lastly, learnt new approaches and application of various methodologies and skills to everyday life context.
Dolapo Olaniyan - MA Power, Participation and Social Change - 2020/21
The IDS scholarship completely changed my life. Just after completing my Masters in Gender and Development, I got an opportunity as a Programmes Manager in an NGO that focuses on girl’s and women's rights in Zimbabwe.
Tariro Rachel Masaraure - MA Gender and Development - 2019/20
This scholarship means everything to me. Without it I would not have had the opportunity to study here at IDS nor would I have been able to get the training needed to adequately pursue my career in development practice.
Olusola Owonikoko - MA Globalisation, Business and Development - 2017/18

The 60th anniversary of IDS is more than a milestone. It is a moment of reflection, celebration, and recommitment. For six decades, IDS has stood at the forefront of global development thinking, pioneering ideas and partnerships that have shaped policy and practice around the world.
From its founding in 1966 to today, the Institute has nurtured generations of changemakers, alumni who now lead, influence, and drive progress in governments, civil society, academia, and international organisations across the globe.
This anniversary provides a rare and powerful opportunity to honour that legacy while looking ahead. It invites our global community to come together not only to celebrate what we’ve achieved, but to actively invest in the future. Launching the fundraising campaign as part of the 60th anniversary ensures the campaign is grounded in a sense of shared history and collective purpose. It allows us to channel the energy, visibility, and pride of this moment into something lasting and transformative.
