1) What is Email for Life?

The Email-for-Life is a service available to all IDS alumni; it is a permanent @alumni.ids.ac.uk email address, with an option to redirect mail from that account to another email address. Alumni report having used their email-for-life for job applications; connecting with other alumni; staying in touch with IDS etc.

2) When will my ids.ac.uk email address change to an alumni.ids.ac.uk email address?

More than likely at the end of October.  You will receive an email to tell you when this will happen and don't worry emails sent to your ids.ac.uk will still reach you even after they have changed to alumni.ids.ac.uk

3) How do I access my alumni.ids.ac.uk email?

Open an internet browser and navigate to this address https://portal.office.com
Enter your IDS username as [username]@ids.ac.uk e.g. toms@ids.ac.uk* (do not use your email address, if you cannot remember your IDS username please complete this short form and we will be able to help you.

Please wait for the next logon box to appear and then enter your IDS [username]@ids.ac.uk and your current IDS password.

For security, always sign out and close the browser (not just the page) when using a public computer e.g. airport, library etc. or a computer that does not belong to you e.g. a friend’s computer.

*Please note, that if you started at IDS prior to 2013 then you will need to enter your IDS username as [username]@alumni.ids.ac.uk

4) Can I change my password?

You can change your IDS password by navigating to this link: Change your IDS password

Please note that you can only change your password if you know your current IDS password. If you have forgotten your current IDS password or you are experiencing difficulties logging on to the IDS portal, please complete this short form and we will be able to help you.

5) Will I still have access to the OneDrive and Microsoft Office

No. Access to IDS provided OneDrive folders will be lost, and if you downloaded Microsoft Office with your 365 account these will change to a read-only state.

6) How can I automatically redirect my emails from my alumni.ids.ac.uk email address to my everyday email account?

Please see this video from CATS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-fjzDgYNZI&feature=youtu.be

7) I am not a recent student/alum but I would like to access my alumni.ids.ac.uk email even though I have not previously had access or I have forgotten my password and/or username.

Please complete this short form and we will be able to help you.

Hopefully this answers some of questions, I am happy to talk to anyone who is unsure, please email  alumni@ids.ac.uk with any questions. But recent IDS alumni should remember this doesn't happen until October and you will receive an email in advance from CATS to let you know what is happening and when.
