The NIHR are currently inviting patients and community members living with a mental health condition or who are carers for someone with mental health and/or have experience of community engagement practices in LMICs to join the advisory committee as public members. The committee makes recommendations to the Department of Health and Social Care in the United Kingdom on what research should be funded to improve the health and care in LMICs.

They are particularly interested in hearing from people who have experience and knowledge of health services in the following countries:
Ghana, South Africa, India, China, Lebanon, Kenya, Nepal, Malawi, Mexico, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Pakistan, Gambia, Bangladesh, Zambia, Malaysia and Latin America.

There is a small honorarium available to committee members to help with costs of attending the 2 day meeting in Twickenham London, 11-12 November 2019.

The criteria are:
  • Have experience of living with a mental health condition or care for someone with mental health problems and come from one of the countries listed above
  • Have experience of community engagement activities in LMICs
  • Have experience and knowledge of health services in LMICs
Deadline for expressions of interest is 30 June 2019.
