IDS and the University of Sussex have decided to change the MA Gender and Development degree from a jointly convened degree between IDS and  the School of Global Studies to a degree hosted fully by IDS. This reflects shifting emphases in the teaching portfolio of both institutions.   Global Studies’ are increasingly focused on their successful MA in Gender, Violence and Conflict (MAGVC) and IDS is seeking greater coherence across our development-focused degrees.   There are also some practical and logistical considerations due to the differences in our institutional structures that have influenced this decision.

The changes will come into effect from the beginning of the academic year 2018-19.  MA Gender and Development graduates, like all of our students, will continue to become graduates and alumni of IDS and the University of Sussex.

We believe that through the two complementary gender-focused MA degrees convened by each of our institutions we can enlarge and extend the range of our collaboration on the many vital gender challenges of our day, with gender and development and feminist scholarship and practice remaining central to the identity and reputation of IDS and the University of Sussex.
